Financial Awareness Month

April 17th, 2017
By Scott Sarber, President

I’ve often said, “Financial planning is not rocket science.” One day I said that to a client who actually was a rocket scientist.  He looked at me, smiled and said, “You don’t know how to build rockets, and I don’t know how to manage my finances.  I am glad we have each other.”  Sometimes I reflect on how long it took to learn what I know, and why most people are overwhelmed about their financial situation.  Personal financial planning courses are not a common part of high school or college, and debt management is not taught outside of business school.  Most Americans are not prepared for things such as retirement, sudden job changes, or how to protect their personal information.  We need to be more financially literate and consciences!

But where does one start?  Well, you can start by gathering all of your old financial data and disposing of it properly. If you give your neighbor, friend, or family member a financial tip, ask them to join you in a financial data dump. Take advantage of our free service, and bring all of your outdated financial statements, tax return documents or other personal information to be safely destroyed on SHRED DAY at our location, April 28th, from 11:00AM to 1:00PM.  CI Shred and Petersen Hastings will do the rest.

At Petersen Hastings, Our mission is to serve committed investors with complex financial needs.  Well… most people have complex financial needs. Financial guidance is necessary because lives are complex.  The products that are available to invest in or borrow from are complex.  Decision making can be overwhelming when there are so many alternatives. That is why it is very important to select an advisor you can trust and who will always serve your best interests.

As a Certified Financial Planner Practitioner™ and an investment advisor for more than 22 years; money, investments, and financial decisions are second nature to me.  But, I still don’t know everything, so continuing education and learning is always a priority as we have clients with very complicated finances.
