Background
Petersen Hastings is an independent, fee only investment advisor. We provide
financial planning and investment management services for our family,
non-profit, corporate, and foundation clients, and we provide third party
administration and investment management services for our retirement plan
clients.
We currently provide investment management services for more than a quarter
billion in assets. We have approximately 400 personal clients, and 90 qualified
retirement plan clients.
Our independence and fee based structure means that
we are able to provide planning and advice without conflicts of interest. This
structure perfectly aligns our goals with those of our clients.
Investment
Philosophy
Our investment philosophy is an academic-based passive investment strategy
grounded in Modern Portfolio Theory, which refers to the process of reducing
risk in a portfolio through systematic diversification. We believe that the
capital markets are efficient, and it is impossible to consistently outperform
an appropriate benchmark. Since asset allocation is the largest determinate of
performance, we make this a central part of the investment process. We do not
jump in and out of investments, but systematically rebalance portfolios to
desired targeted allocations. After tax and expense returns are what matters, so
we also focus on keeping investment costs low, and minimize taxes when possible.
Zero Alpha Group
The Zero Alpha Group: Advocates of low-cost, passive investment strategies.
Petersen Hastings Investment Management is a proud member of the Zero Alpha
Group. Zero Alpha member firms are registered investment advisors from around
the country who share a common investment philosophy. Members meet periodically
to share investment information, strategic and marketing plans and research
related to passive investment management.
